First Grade Class Teacher Salary range: $42,000 - $62,000 depending on qualifications, experience, and skills. Benefits and tuition remission are included.
General Description:
Provide full-time instruction to the class, aligned with the Waldorf School of Baltimore curriculum and grounded in the principles of Waldorf educational philosophy. Create a classroom atmosphere where learning, cooperation, kindness, sharing, caring, respect and tolerance are encouraged. Assess progress of students on an ongoing basis. Maintain regular communication with parents describing projects, expectations, homework, written progress reports, and special events.
Conduct parent-teacher conferences on a scheduled and as needed basis. Participate in all-school and Community events and activities.

- Inform the Academic Director of problems and issues which may interfere with the ability to carry out the responsibilities below.
Covering up to 24 periods per week.
- 16-20 Teaching periods
- Other scheduled periods may include recess, early arrival, story/rest, committee meetings, or mentoring
A mentor is provided for the 2 years of a teacher joining the Waldorf School of Baltimore.
Instructional EnvironmentPlanning and teaching Main Lesson Blocks according to the school curriculum.
Planning and teaching language arts and math skills classes.
Teaching other class teacher periods which may include applied arts, projects, study hall, electives depending on the grade level.
Guiding and supervising students through their daily class schedule transitions, lunches, snacks and other routines.
Preparing and maintaining the classroom, class materials, class records, and attendance.
Maintaining a clean, orderly, and attractive room.
Ensuring tools, equipment and resources are well maintained and replenished as needed.
Home / School PartnershipDeveloping and maintaining appropriate partnerships with individual families and the class community, including working with parent volunteers.
Maintaining regular communication with parents through:
- Bi-monthly class notices describing projects, expectations, and how developmental needs are met thru the curriculum.
- Planning and facilitating regular class meetings and other class activities, such as all parent nights.
- Completing trimester and interim report cards for parents, to the standards and deadlines expected.
- Coordinate visits with individual new students and their family before the first day of school.
Designing and delivering lessons in line with the School curriculum and expectations, including planning the performance of one class play per year.
Planning and participating in school wide Festivals.
Attending/being fully engaged in training and development opportunities as discussed and agreed with the Academic Director.
Teachers/Staff/AdministrationWork with Academic Director, teachers, and other staff to make on-going decisions about students and program implementation.
Attending appropriate regularly scheduled faculty/staff meetings and other community and outreach events.
