The Waldorf School of Baltimore is seeking a dedicated Waldorf Early Childhood Lead Teacher to join our Children’s Garden for the 2026–2027 school year. We invite a teacher who understands early childhood as sacred ground: a time for protecting wonder, nurturing imagination, and cultivating healthy development through rhythm, play, meaningful work, and time outdoors. Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution. Ideal candidates will have completed WECAN‑approved Waldorf Early Childhood training or be currently enrolled, or willing to enroll, in a Waldorf teacher training program.
Salaries are based on education and experience. AboutFounded in 1971, the Waldorf School of Baltimore is dually accredited by AWSNA and the Association of Maryland Independent Schools (AIMS). We serve children from Pre‑K (2.5+) through Grade 8. Our Children’s Garden includes Baltimore City’s only Forest Kindergarten program and reflects our school‑wide commitment to nature‑rich, hands‑on education. Our beautiful hillside campus in northwest Baltimore City includes woodlands, open fields, and garden spaces and is adjacent to the Cylburn Arboretum.
We are housed in a purpose‑built facility overlooking the city and are proud to be a MAEOE Certified Sustainable Green School and a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School.

Children’s Garden Lead Teacher
A Lead Early Childhood Teacher is a core member of the Waldorf School of Baltimore faculty and leads a full‑time class within the framework of the school’s philosophy and curriculum. Rooted in Waldorf education and guided by a deep understanding of child development, this teacher cultivates a warm, rhythmic, and secure classroom where young children thrive through imaginative play, practical work, storytelling, and meaningful daily routines.
A Lead Teacher embraces daily outdoor exploration, seasonal festivals, and hands‑on experiences as essential to healthy growth. The classroom atmosphere encourages cooperation, kindness, respect, sharing, and care, nurturing both individual development and a strong sense of community.
The Lead Teacher observes and assesses each child’s progress on an ongoing basis and maintains thoughtful, consistent communication with families through email, progress reports, conferences, and special events. This role includes active participation in school‑wide initiatives and community gatherings, strengthening the shared life of the school while supporting the well‑being of every child.
AuthorityThe Children’s Garden (CG) Lead Teacher has the authority to:
- Carry out the responsibilities of the position as described below.
- Inform the Academic Director of problems and issues which may interfere with the ability to carry out the responsibilities below.
- Planning all daily class schedules and rhythms in accordance with Waldorf early childhood principles.
- Preparing and maintaining the classroom as a beautiful, intentional learning space, along with class materials and records (e.g. progress reports, child observations, attendance).
- Maintaining a clean, orderly, safe, and aesthetically nourishing room environment.
