Higher Achievement is looking for Part-Time Achievement Coaches who are passionate about supporting middle school students during a critical moment in their academic and personal development.

As an Achievement Coach, you'll build meaningful relationships with scholars, lead engaging after school programming, and help students grow into confident, high-achieving learners prepared for high school and beyond.

Job Details
  • Part-Time: Monday-Thursday, approximately 3:30-5:30 PM
  • Additional

    Hours:

    Approximately 1-3 hours per month for planning, meetings and trainings
  • Pay Rate: $50 per hour
  • Start Date: August 2025
  • Duration: Indefinite; work available during the After school Academy year (September/October-May/June), based on center placement. Limited summer hours available.

What You'll Do

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Curriculum and Instruction
  • Supervise and manage a disciplined class of up to 15 scholars that has a positive culture and has scholars actively working in learning blocks three days per week
  • Follow and implement the Learning Block systems and structures
  • Support scholars with prioritizing daily assignments, along with setting realistic timetables with prioritized task-lists for longer-term projects, and assist scholars in preparing for upcoming quizzes, tests, and projects and coach them to develop strong study skills
  • Ensure that class assignments and homework are completed by all scholars to a high degree of quality. High-quality assignments are characterized by a high level of accuracy, an organized and clear presentation, and answers that indicate thinking beyond the surface level.
  • Support volunteer homework helpers in their work with scholars
  • Answer questions from and re-teach necessary concepts to scholars to achieve mastery
  • Provide additional academic activities that are engaging and intentional for scholars who complete their homework or who were not assigned homework
  • Reinforce Higher Achievement's philosophies and positive work culture
  • Track scholar progress using the center's established tracking mechanisms
  • Observe other Learning Blocks and provide feedback around classroom structures and routines that will support the scholar learning experience
Communication with Families, Teachers and Staff
  • Communicate with scholars' teachers and parents/guardians through written communication when concerns or successes arise. Report back to Learning Directors and other staff on the content and progress of these communications.
  • When necessary, place phone calls to scholars' families regarding scholar performance in Learning Blocks
  • Attend a weekly Center Staff Team meeting where individual scholar needs are discussed, as well as current successes and challenges at center, and how systems are functioning
  • Communicate and collaborate with the center's Learning Director around scholars who consistently complete homework early or who have been identified as needing additional help.
  • All other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; college juniors or seniors may apply
  • Minimum of two years of in classroom teaching experience with middle school students required;
    Teacher Certification strongly preferred
  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills using advancing youth development approaches
