Job Description

The Y in Central Maryland invites individuals who align with our mission to join us as a Preschool Teacher at Sherman Early Childhood Center. This role supports our commitment to exemplary early childhood education and community wellness.

How this role contributes to the Y’s mission:

As a Preschool Teacher, you will plan, manage, and supervise the early childhood classroom structure, including lesson plans, schedules, routines, and transitions. You will lead the classroom, support colleagues, and ensure adherence to state standards and the Y’s philosophy. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and safety of the children enrolled, and create an environment that fosters social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development.

This work is right for you if you have:

  • Enthusiasm for infants and toddler children, patience, good humor, good judgment, and a good spirit
  • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
  • At least 1 year of early childhood experience
  • A high school degree or GED
  • 90‑hour child‑care certification

All Y associates agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for young people. The policy prohibits any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment and requires reporting of mistreatment. Associates and volunteers must complete child‑abuse prevention training and comply with legal reporting requirements.
