Position: Success Mentor, Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Y

Position Summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Y seeks an entry‑level professional to support the academic and personal development of students in schools. The Success Mentor manages a caseload of students, builds meaningful relationships, collaborates with school staff, monitors attendance, provides guidance, and implements strategies to enhance engagement and success.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure high‑level proficiency in child safety, risk‑management policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct parent/child enrollments and provide safety education and program orientation; assess and refer families for additional services.
  • Meet established monthly and annual goals by accurately documenting and reporting interactions, progress, and attendance changes.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork and data entry into the Match force system per agency standards, including completion of necessary surveys.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive reports and recommendations for students based on consistent contact and assessment.
  • Nurture and sustain the mentoring experience by building trust with students and families.
  • Effectively coach and motivate students using mentoring techniques to improve attendance and engagement.
  • Partner with teachers, counselors, administrators, and community organizations to provide support and guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Prior mentoring or teaching experience preferred.
Experience
  • At least two years of work experience in human services or a related field.
  • Experience working with both child and adult populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Platform.
Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and be patient with students’ challenges, interact well in multicultural environments, maintain confidentiality, collaborate with colleagues and school staff, manage time effectively, and focus on details.
  • Problem‑solving ability, collecting meaningful data, identifying issues, drawing solid conclusions, and implementing solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in computer skills including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
