Pay Rate: $25.64 - $33.33 per hour (depending on education)
Sign‑On Bonus: $2,000.00
Head Start of Baltimore City is a child and family development program serving nearly 500 low‑income families in west, south, and southwest Baltimore City, preparing children for kindergarten and beyond.
Catholic Charities of Baltimore Head Start is seeking a Head Start Teacher to manage the classroom and create a stimulating, constructive environment for children’s growth and development. The work schedule is flexible and site placement decisions are finalized during the hiring process.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Supervise students at all times and ensure safety precautions for children’s well‑being.
- Implement the designated curriculum aligned with Head Start Performance Standards, including IEP and IFSP.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that incorporates CLASS principles: emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support.
- Develop lesson plans that support individualized instruction based on ongoing assessment of progress for each student.
- Establish collaborative relationships with parents/caregivers and encourage their participation through parent conferences and home visits.
- Comply with federal, state, and local guidelines and the policies of Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start, and Catholic Charities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education; or an Associate’s degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education plus an internship or one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures, and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education; or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education plus one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Or admission to the Teach For America program with certification and one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures, and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education; or a Master’s degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education plus one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures, and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Teachers (I/II/III) must begin the application for a Maryland State Department of Education credential and receive it within six months of employment, or within one year if no early childhood experience at hire.
- Patience and composure when working with children and interacting with parents.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare philosophies and procedures, ensuring high‑quality care.
- Ability to connect with children and create an engaging environment.
- Strong understanding of early childhood teaching strategies to support developmental growth and learning.
- Professional discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software, including Windows PC, web browsers, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and One Drive.
- No remote or hybrid work; on‑site required.
- Stationary position, standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds in all directions.
- Effective verbal and non‑verbal communication with colleagues and families.
- Assessment of accuracy, neatness, and completeness of work to meet quality standards.
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, or similar structures.
- Regular walking or traveling between work sites as required.
- Adequate hearing and vision, with or without correction, to observe and communicate.
