Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is hiring a Teacher for The Excel Center, our free public high school for adult learners. This role supports students in earning their high school diploma while preparing for post-secondary education and career success.

About the Role
Teachers at The Excel Center lead a student-centered, flexible learning environment designed for adult learners with diverse academic backgrounds. You will meet students where they are-adapting instruction to support individual learning needs and helping them stay engaged, motivated, and on track to graduate.
This role combines instruction, mentorship, and collaboration in a team-based environment focused on student success.
What You'll Do
- Deliver engaging instruction aligned with Maryland Academic Standards
- Design and implement lessons using a mix of instructional strategies, including small group, one-on-one, and blended/online learning
- Create and administer assessments to measure student progress and mastery
- Track attendance and academic performance data to adjust instruction and improve outcomes
- Support students across varying skill levels with individualized learning approaches
- Collaborate with instructional staff to improve curriculum, retention, and school culture
- Communicate student progress regularly with students and team members
- Partner with staff to support student graduation and post-secondary planning
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in subject area required
- Maryland Teaching License (MSDE)required
- Candidates eligible for provisional certification may be considered
- 2+ years teaching experience preferred
- Experience with high school curriculum preferred
- Experience working with adult learners, non-traditional students, or urban education settings strongly preferred
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to diverse learning needs
- Data-driven approach to student progress and outcomes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Comfort with technology, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and online learning tools
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-based environment
- Commitment to student success, equity, and lifelong learning

- Standing, walking, and classroom engagement throughout the day
- Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs
