General Summary
Roland Park Country School, a K‑12 independent girls’ school, seeks an 80% Middle School History Teacher to begin August 2026. The History Teacher reports directly to the Middle School Head and is a valued member of the division and history department. This role fosters a dynamic, creative learning environment where students acquire inquiry skills and an in-depth understanding of historical thinking.
The teacher collaborates with passionate educators to engage and inspire students to develop an interest in authentic historical analysis, research, and writing.
- Plans innovative, developmentally appropriate classroom activities and assignments designed to engage a diverse student population.
- Exhibits a love for learning history and an eagerness to share that passion with an enthusiastic student body.
- Meets regularly with the Middle School Head, the Middle School Team, and the Middle School Academic Department, and attends grade‑level team meetings as needed.
- Builds curriculum, works collaboratively with colleagues, and supports the developmental needs of adolescent girls.
- Demonstrates knowledge of formative and summative assessment to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Integrates interactive digital tools into the curriculum as appropriate.
- Serves as an academic advisor to Middle School students, including supervising extracurricular activities.
- Attends professional conferences and workshops as needed.
- Understands the social‑emotional needs of adolescents.
- Respects and values the School’s Mission and Core Values.
- Creates a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Has other reasonable duties as assigned by the Middle School Head or Head of School.
The Middle School History Teacher is an 80% exempt, 10‑month position. The teacher is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School, including additional hours for events and activities. Duties are performed on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $43,600–$70,000 annually. Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In accordance with Maryland’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we provide transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities.

Bachelor’s degree in history or a related field (required), graduate degree preferred; minimum two years of demonstrated teaching excellence; experience with inquiry‑based learning pedagogies that center students. - Physical Requirements

Stand, sit, walk, run, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, crouch, and respond to emergencies; maintain visual acuity to read written materials; move around and access all parts of the campus, including gym, turf, fields, dining hall, etc.; ascend and descend stairs as needed.
