Loyola University Maryland partners with community groups, public and nonprofit organizations, schools, and initiatives in Baltimore City and beyond that provide learning, service, and scholarship opportunities for Loyola community members and create positive impact through its Center for Community, Service, and Justice. As part of this work, the TMA Loyola Family Engagement Systems VISTA project aims to develop a culture of parental involvement and community engagement at Govans Elementary School and Walter P.
Carter Elementary/Middle School.
The VISTA member will build school capacity by developing engagement toolkits, leadership pathways, communication systems, and a family resource hub that reduce barriers to PTA involvement and after school engagement. By empowering families as leaders and partners, this initiative enhances educational access and success, strengthens school-community relationships, and supports expanded engagement in Baltimore's York Road community. By project completion, both schools will have functioning systems for PTA engagement and family resource access, along with training materials and sustainability plans that allow school staff and parent leaders to maintain these structures independently.
