Residential Tutor Counselor

Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) is accepting applications for the position of Residential Tutor Counselor. The Upward Bound Math and Science Program (UBMS) is a federally funded initiative aimed at supporting first generation, underserved high school students by enhancing their math and science skills and encouraging them to pursue STEM degrees. As a UBMS Tutor Counselor, you will be part of a team of mentors focused on improving post-secondary enrollment, retention, and completion rates.

Your role is to provide student Tutoring and coaching to create a supportive environment in the residence halls, acting as a mentor, enforcing safety standards, and organizing activities to enhance the college experience for students.

  • Support in managing a caseload of up to 40 students, with specific focus on overseeing up to 10 students.
  • Provide tutoring to high school students in core subjects, i.e. English, Science, Mathematics.
  • A capacity to engage with students both in group settings and one-on-one, offering enriching activities that foster academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Assist the Residential Coordinator with the organization of summer residence student programing.
  • Chaperone and supervise students for activities both on and off campus.
  • Fulfilling day, night and overnight duty responsibilities rotating as part of a larger team.
  • Developing Intervention plans for students with academic and/or social difficulties.
  • Communicate regularly with students, resident staff, Teachers, Program staff and Parents collaboratively to help improve college
    -readiness outcomes.
  • Maintain documentation of support services to ensure summer program compliance.
  • Participate in summer training and meetings to further professional development.
  • Enforce UBMS, College, State and federal rules and regulations for Maryland youth residential programs.
  • Work with a small group of students to complete an assigned project; planning and leading academic, social, and recreational activities.
  • Performing regular monitoring duties such as check-in, meal counts, check-out and other duties as scheduled.

Education:

Sophomore in college.

Experience:

Six (6) months of experience with tutoring and/or mentoring high school students.

  • Bachelor's degree in the STEM field, education, psychology, or related field of study.
  • Previous experience working with TRIO Grant programs or similar or current TRIO participant/Alumni.
  • Must have high academic competency in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
