Job Description

The Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) Director provides the strategic vision and leadership necessary to lead both the summer and school-year internship programs as well as the alumni strategy. This role drives the entire program lifecycle—from student recruitment and partner cultivation to curriculum design to staff training and data-driven evaluation. The Director ensures that daily execution aligns with A4L and BAI goals and values, while actively building a cultural arts ecosystem that attracts and retains creative talent in Baltimore.

The Bloomberg Arts Internship Director is a full time, exempt position that will report to the Chief of Innovation and Workforce Development.

Responsibilities Program Leadership & Management
  • Direct the implementation and overall vision of BAI summer and school-year programs, ensuring all activities contribute to long‑term student outcomes.
  • Maintain the big‑picture program focus, collaborating with the Assistant Director to serve as the primary point of coordination across teams for consistent delivery.
  • Support BAI Assistant Director by contributing to budget development, tracking expenditures, handling reporting.
  • Support real‑time problem solving and decision‑making regarding scheduling and instruction, resolving high‑level conflicts that arise beyond the scope of seasonal staff, interns, and host sites.
Team Supervision & Instructional Support
  • Supervise and support the BAI Assistant Director and BAI Facilitator providing ongoing professional development and accountability.
  • Provide direction and guidance to instructional staff, facilitators, college mentors, and writing coaches, ensuring clear communication regarding timelines and deliverables.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings and conduct individual check‑ins to monitor programmatic progress.
  • Oversee communications with families, ensuring the BAI seasonal staff creates and distributes comprehensive weekly program wrap‑ups.
Partner Cultivation & Work Site Management
  • Act as the lead point of contact for critical program partners, including external host sites, community organizations, and funders.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local work sites to secure high‑quality workforce development placements for participants.
  • Oversee the internship matching process to ensure mutually beneficial alignments between interns and host organizations.
  • Oversee work site paperwork, including partner contracts, invoices, and operational support for participant timesheets and pay.
Recruitment, Hiring, & Onboarding
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract, enroll, and onboard eligible student participants.
  • Establish strong partnerships with both school‑based and community‑based after‑school programs to build a robust student pipeline.
  • Cultivate networks with school districts, schools, social services, agencies, and community workers to reach students who would benefit most from the program.
  • Partner with internal Communications and People Operations teams to market open positions, hire seasonal staff, and coordinate outreach.
Curriculum Framework & Professional Development
  • Establish the foundational curriculum framework and professional development strategy for the BAI program using culturally responsive teaching methods.
