Main Purpose of JobEnhanced Services Teacher Aides are responsible for working with individual students with moderate to severe disabilities and/or small groups on learning tasks planned by the teacher; tutor students in subject areas under the supervision of a teacher; participate in supervision of lunch, recess/reinforcement programs; prepare teaching materials, bulletin boards, charts, pictures, etc.; operate audio visual equipment; assist in planning and carrying out field trips;
assist in clerical duties; implement behavior management programs as directed; collect and document behavioral data; improve professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities; participate in student after-school activities as appropriate; assume other responsibilities as designated by the Student Support Specialist/Enhanced Program Coordinator, Principal, or Chief Educational Programs Officer.
- Work with an individual child or small group on a special learning task planned by the teacher or identified on the IEP.
- Work as a tutor in a special subject area.
- Assist with recess/lunch duty/reinforcement or other related activities.
- Assist in behavior modification and training programs when necessary, including the collection of data and support as needed.
- Help prepare teaching materials for the classroom.
- Take children to other parts of the campus, such as infirmary, library, dorm, etc.
- Assist in all aspects of field trips.
- Obtain instructional materials from central supply/office secretary.
- Write all necessary reports and fill out all necessary forms.
- Participate in department meetings, trainings, and behavior management meetings as necessary.
Work involves special physical demands such as moving student equipment, assisting with the evacuation of students with additional needs, overseeing the movement of students between buildings, managing student behavior, and assisting students with self-care tasks as needed, including toileting/diapering.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Fluency in ASL and written English required.
- Knowledge of Deaf community preferred.
- Experience in working with deaf and hard of hearing students desired.
- Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required.

- Knowledge of Deaf community preferred.
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.
BenefitsContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period.
This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
