Teacher Physical Education – Secondary SY (26-27)
Eager Street Academy provides access to educational services for incarcerated youth ages 14‑21. These students receive traditional academic classes geared toward preparing them to return to a comprehensive middle/high school or alternative program. This position supports education in a detention center setting.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement an instructional program in Physical Education for students in grades 6‑12.
- Assess student abilities and evaluate student achievement, using instructional and assessment documentation.
- Manage student behavior, establish discipline procedures, and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Utilize a variety of instructional materials, multimedia, and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Adapt and individualize educational materials and strategies to meet students’ needs.
- Collaborate with other professional staff, including guidance counselors, librarians, and resource personnel.
- Participate in staff development, meetings, and in‑service activities as required.
- Communicate with parents and students regarding instructional expectations and progress.
- Assign work to paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers as needed.
- Serve at multiple schools or make off‑site visits if itinerant.
- Support or coordinate extracurricular activities such as clubs and student organizations.
- Promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non‑discrimination policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a conditional license in Physical Education (kinesiology or related field; at least 24 credits in physical education or kinesiology).
- Accredited college or institution for bachelor’s degree.
- Valid professional educator license appropriate to the subject taught.
- Knowledge of federal laws protecting students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the program of studies, curriculum, and instructional materials for the assigned specialty.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate lessons based on student needs and program objectives.
- Ability to manage classroom behavior and maintain a professional environment.
- Ability to collaborate with school and non‑school staff to maximize learning opportunities.
