The main purpose of the Child Care Instructor position is to teach a range of courses related to child growth and development and childcare practices within the Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) division s position directly supports the college's mission by providing specialized training to individuals pursuing careers in childcare, thereby enhancing the skills of the local workforce and improving educational outcomes for young children.
- Develops and Delivers instruction for childcare courses, including Child Growth and Development, Communication Skills for Child Care Professionals
- Infant and Toddler, Preschool Curriculum and Activities
- School Age Child Care Curriculum, Including All Children, and the ADA
- Supporting Breastfeeding in Child-Care, Child-Care Administration
- Family Child Care Pre-Service, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
- Prepares course materials, outlines, and lessons plans. Evaluates student progress and provides constructive feedback.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance and grades in Banner/Canvas. Stays current with best practices in early childhood education and childcare regulations.
- An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with significant experience may also be considered for non- credit courses.
- Professional Expertise:
Instructors must have three (3) years of experience in childcare, early childhood education, and child development. - MSDE Credentialing is key requirement is successful participation in the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) 6-tiered credentialing system at a Level 4 or higher. This credentialing system recognizes the education, experience, and training of early childhood professionals.
- Completed a minimum of 90 hours in Child Development and Curriculum
- Completed a minimum of 12 hours of MSDE-approved training annually to stay current in the field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Teaching
Experience:
Prior teaching experience, especially at the college level, is highly preferred. Experience teaching adult learners in a professional setting is also valuable. - Field
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in childcare, early childhood education, or a related professional setting is often required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles, child development theories, and best practices in childcare.
- Ability to create engaging lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Effective communication and people skills for interacting with diverse student population.
- Familiarity with Maryland childcare licensing regulations and standards.
- Deep knowledge of the subject matter.
