Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA), the Assistant Vice President, Academic Engagement & Partnerships (AVPAEP) manages programs and initiatives related to academic engagement, co‑curricular student support, and student honor societies. Additionally, the position develops student transfer and articulations opportunities and is responsible for the timely preparation and submission of reports of their effectiveness. The Assistant Vice President assists the VPAA with partnerships and collaborations with community stakeholders, including the Maryland State Department of Education, Mayland Higher Education Commission, and Baltimore City Public Schools.
Additionally, the position facilitates dual‑enrollment and academic pathways to enhance student engagement with local educational agencies.
The Assistant Vice President, Academic Engagement & Partnerships provides supervision and direction for assessment efforts of co‑curricular student support services and provides support and oversight of extramural funding including required reporting connected to the Perkins V Grant. The AVP AEP serves as part of the Vice President of Academic Affairs leadership team and represents the Vice President at relevant committees and meetings.
The position will have direct supervision of the Center for Academic Achievement and other transfer and retention functions. Additional duties may be assigned to support the mission of the College.
- Identify, build, and maintain, in conjunction with academic leadership, program articulations with four‑year institutions.
- Serve as the point of contact for institutional reporting connected to extramural funding, articulation agreements, and student transfer and completion.
- Work with academic leadership to support efforts connected to dual‑enrollment and Pathways in Technical and Early College High School (P‑TECH).
- Be responsible for the evaluation of existing student engagement efforts to support the facilitation of data‑informed decisions connected to the expansion and improvement of existing initiatives.
- Provide leadership and vision to expand and improve student success initiatives including tutoring, developmental education, and other co‑curricular supports.
- Direct assessment efforts relating to program performance, student retention, completion and success.
- Provide direction on extramural funding and work with grant leads to support implementation and compliance including (but not limited to) the Perkins V Grant.
- Represent the Vice President of Academic Affairs on committees and in meetings, as needed.
- Master’s Degree
- Five (5) years of experience working with student success initiatives and partnership building in higher education, which must include the following:
- Managing teams of individuals collaborating on multi‑component projects
- Building and maintaining projects involving community partners
- Coordinating academic support services
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel)
- Five (5) or more years of full‑time experience directing or overseeing academic tutoring programs/services in higher education.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with tutors, staff, and others, including academic deans, faculty, and other college/university units.
- Experience collaborating with institutional research units on collecting data and assessing results.
- Experience leading or participating in a supplemental instruction program.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- A demonstrated commitment to faculty and academic program development
- Proven record of working collaboratively with all units of the College with effective leadership
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, make effective decisions, and attend to multiple priorities
