Position Duties.
The Department of Biology at Loyola University Maryland (LUM) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of bioinformatics to begin in July 2027. We are looking for a candidate committed to excellence in undergraduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university who can continue a productive research program. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to LUM's stated goals of equity and inclusion.
We seek outstanding candidates who use and develop bioinformatics tools to address research questions across any discipline of biology, but we are especially interested in those who can contribute to our growing Biohealth major (https:// ) or Loyola's new environmental studies program. Candidates who are interested in developing cross-disciplinary courses that can serve biology/biohealth, computer science, and data science students are also especially encouraged.
The successful candidate will teach three courses per term (lab courses are counted toward these courses) in their area of expertise and in our introductory biology sequence. They should also possess an awareness of and interest in high impact practices in line with the mission of Jesuit higher education. Funds are available to support startup costs, research-related expenses, and professional travel.

Required Qualifications- Have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or have a Ph.D (or equivalent degree) in a biological field with extensive training and use of bioinformatics
- Demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence across all levels of the undergraduate curriculum
- Demonstrate the potential for significant scholarly activity
- Be responsive to the educational needs of our diversifying student population
- We seek candidates displaying a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including an awareness of and interest in high impact teaching practices in keeping with the mission of Jesuit higher education.
Final compensation offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, job-related experience, internal equity, and alignment with organizational budget.
