Technical Theater Educator

Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an education recruitment firm, is currently seeking a Technical Theater Educator starting in Fall 2026 at an independent school in Baltimore, MD.

Responsibilities of Technical Theater Educator:

• Oversee scenic design, construction, rigging, shop safety, and student crews for theatre, dance, music, and school performances.
• Teach several upper school technical theater courses, including scenic, lighting, and sound design each semester.
• Collaborate with Technical Director on production schedules and implementation.
• Supervise and mentor students in technical theater disciplines, including set construction, lighting design, sound, and stage management.
• Expand student skillset in scenic construction, woodworking, props construction, scenic painting, stagecraft, shop safety and basic theatrical design.
• Mentor and oversee students in technical theater activities, emphasizing safety procedures and proper equipment use.

Requirements of Technical Theater Educator:

• Bachelor's degree in Theater, Technical Theater, Theater Design, Education, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
• Previous experience with set design, sound, lighting, and/or stage management required.
• Experience with woodworking, scenery fabrication, and stagecraft.
• Previous K-12 theater teaching experience strongly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of technical theater, theater equipment, and best practices.
• Ability to build sets for theater productions.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Additional Desired Qualities:

• Interest to contribute to school community outside of the classroom as an athletic coach, student advisor, or student club leader.
