Part‑time Adjunct Faculty Appointment First Year Experience (FYE). The First Year Experience (FYE) program of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for this part‑time faculty position in a non‑tenure institution beginning Fall 2025.
Job DescriptionThe faculty position will teach a studio course within the FYE program, a 3‑credit class. The faculty is expected to teach one of the required core curricular courses in FYE:
Inter‑Trans‑disciplinary Forum 1 + Forum II;
Drawing Fundamentals;
Color Design (2D);
Fabrication (3D);
New Media (4D). The program is a foundation‑level exploratory art and design curriculum that supports the diversity of our community, encourages discovery of varied learning pathways, and nurtures student curiosity. Students are encouraged to explore their roles and responsibilities as artists and designers in society. The faculty must be able to instruct students to conclude the course with the FYEs Program Learning Outcomes, demonstrating foundation‑level practical and conceptual skills, digital literacy, interdisciplinary skills, visual art and design communication skills, professionalism, social and environmental responsibility, ethical research, and engagement in intercultural, community, and collaborative projects.
- BFA / MFA degree requirement and/or professional equivalent degree or industry standard qualification.
- Proficiency in digital literacy to instruct first‑year students in studio art and design making processes.
- Basic knowledge of Canvas or classroom LMS and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to inspire and guide first‑year students in step‑by‑step foundational studio skill building in art and design, using a variety of artistic approaches.
- Ability to follow advice from senior faculty and fulfill the required curriculum provided to instructors.
Commensurate with experience and college policy.

Physical Demands and Work Environment- Physical Demands: occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work Environment: exposure to weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate to high.

Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti‑Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. Additional training may be added (see EHS Manager training schedule).
