About the Bard Early Colleges

The Bard Early Colleges, tuition-free, satellite campuses of Bard College operated through partnerships with public school systems,are founded on the belief that many high-school-age students areeager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education.

Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Collegeshelp high school students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life.

Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.)degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma.

The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college workas early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academicsupports. Now in its third decade, the Bard Early College networkof campuses serves over 3,300 students in campuses in Lower Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and in Queens, New York;
Newark,New Jersey;
New Orleans, Louisiana;
Cleveland, Ohio;
Baltimore,Maryland; and in Washington, DC. Since 2003, Bard College hasawarded more than 5,500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.

Position Objectives

Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Baltimore invites applications for a position in our Social Sciences Department,starting in the fall of 2026. The successful candidate will planand implement an instructional program in General Social Studiesand provides related educational services for students. They will manage student behavior, assess, and evaluate student achievement,and modify instructional activities as required; and carry out avariety of student monitoring and supports activities.

They willteach courses in our high school program, Seminar sequence coursesin our college program, and electives in their area of expertise.

All BHSEC Baltimore faculty also participate actively in the lifeof the school, advising students, serving on committees, orsponsoring extracurricular activities.

$60,000 -$100,000 (compensation commensurate with experience and based on school district pay scale)

Qualifications
  • A Masters degree is required
  • A dedication to teaching is required
  • An interest in working with high school age students who arealso completing a college-level course of study
  • A strong commitment to equity and social justice
  • A strong commitment to opening up opportunities in education for underrepresented students
  • Candidates who will have a Ph.D. at the time of employment, orwho are ABD, with high school and/or college teaching experience are preferred.
