Instructional Facilitator For Secondary Mathematics

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics, the Instructional Facilitator for Secondary Mathematics promotes access and equity for all students by providing leadership in the development, supervision, and implementation of the Secondary Mathematics Program. The Instructional Facilitator provides leadership for a rigorous mathematics program for all secondary students, supports continuous improvement initiatives, provides professional learning opportunities for teachers and administrators, and supports efforts to ensure equitable access to advanced mathematics courses.

The Instructional Facilitator closely collaborates with HCPSS stakeholders across offices, programs, schools, and partnerships to support fidelity of curriculum implementation and quality first instruction for students in middle and high school mathematics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in education, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who hold a current Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional certificate or license in Middle School Mathematics (4-9) or Secondary Mathematics (7-12) as well as Administrator I, Administrator II, or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principals, and Principals.
  • Applicants may be considered who hold a current out-of-state educator license and are eligible for MSDE licensure with the appropriate endorsements in mathematics and administration.
  • Five years of experience as a licensed educator in a secondary mathematics setting.
  • Three years of experience leading beyond the classroom or evidence of leadership roles or leading programs or projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in secondary mathematics programs.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional learning for secondary mathematics educators and support staff.
  • Experience developing online professional learning modules and/or instructional content within a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience monitoring and interpreting student data through management systems to evaluate the success of education initiatives.
  • Experience observing, coaching, and mentoring mathematics teachers.
  • Participation in state and/or national professional organizations which promote access, equity, and student empowerment.

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of the Grades 6-12 Secondary Mathematics program and initiatives aligned to HCPSS system priorities.
  • Assists with leadership in planning, organizing, and implementing systemic and onsite professional learning on mathematics education for Grades 6-12 professional staff, secondary administrators, and central office leadership in alignment with the vision and goals of HCPSS and the Secondary Mathematics Program.
  • Collaborates with school-based administrators to ensure exemplary implementation of the HCPSS curriculum and conducts informal and formal teacher observations of secondary mathematics teachers, secondary mathematics coaches, and middle school mathematics specialists using the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching.
  • Provides leadership in the development of curricular resources in an online LMS for the Secondary Mathematics Program, including Maryland's College and Career-Ready Standards for Mathematics (MCCRS-M) aligned essential curriculum, inclusive instructional lesson plans, assessments, technology integration, and differentiated resources to support all learners.
  • Recruits, interviews, and recommends mathematics candidates to the Office of Human Resources.
  • Supports partnerships among families, the community, and the Office of Secondary Mathematics. Serves as the liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in areas related to secondary mathematics.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of mathematics content and pedagogy, including Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) and state assessments.
  • Knowledge of data collection methods and evaluation tools used to measure the success of instructional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the 2022 Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching (FFT).
  • Instructional Best Practices:
    Mastery of MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and Tier I instructional strategies to ensure high-quality core instruction for all students.
