Assistant Professor of Biology

The Department of Biology at Loyola University Maryland (LUM) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of bioinformatics to begin in July 2027. We are looking for a candidate committed to excellence in undergraduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university who can continue a productive research program. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to LUM's stated goals of equity and inclusion.

We seek outstanding candidates who use and develop bioinformatics tools to address research questions across any discipline of biology, but we are especially interested in those who can contribute to our growing Biohealth major or Loyola's new environmental studies program. Candidates who are interested in developing cross-disciplinary courses that can serve biology/biohealth, computer science, and data science students are also especially encouraged.

The successful candidate will teach three courses per term (lab courses are counted toward these courses) in their area of expertise and in our introductory biology sequence. They should also possess an awareness of and interest in high impact practices in line with the mission of Jesuit higher education. Funds are available to support startup costs, research-related expenses, and professional travel.

Many faculty development opportunities are available, and there are numerous ways to participate meaningfully in the life of the department and university. We highly value collaboration with other faculty members, the provision of high-value research experiences to our undergraduates, and a commitment to "inspire students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world."

The salary range for this position is $76,250 - $77,500.
