Summary The Long-Term Substitute Teacher serves as the classroom instructor during an extended teacher absence, maintaining continuity of instruction, classroom routines, and student learning. Working under the supervision of the Principal and in collaboration with the Teacher of Record, the Long-Term Substitute delivers standards-based instruction, manages the classroom environment, monitors student progress, collaborates with staff and families, and supports the school's mission and instructional goals.

The Teacher of Record retains responsibility for IEP development, legal compliance, and special education case management.

Accountability Reports to the Principal or designee.

Maintains continuity of classroom instruction and daily operations during the assignment.

Collaborates with the Teacher of Record and school leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities Provides day-to-day instructional direction to classroom assistants and support staff assigned to the classroom; does not complete formal evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Deliver standards-based instruction using differentiated practices.

Maintain a positive, structured learning environment.

Implement PBIS and school behavior expectations.

Use assessment data to guide instruction.

Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.

Maintain accurate classroom records.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Implement lesson plans and deliver engaging instruction.

Maintain classroom routines, procedures, and student safety.

Differentiate instruction based on student needs.

Monitor attendance, grades, and academic progress.

Implement accommodations and classroom behavior supports as directed.

Participate in meetings, PLCs, and professional development.

Communicate with families under the guidance of administration.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Competencies (Key Result Areas)
Planning & Preparation Instruction & Student Achievement Classroom Environment & Behavior Management Professional Responsibilities & Collaboration Organizational Commitment Qualifications Bachelor 's degree and or equivalent required;
Education or related field preferred.

Teaching certification preferred or eligibility to obtain certification.

Previous classroom teaching or long-term substitute experience preferred.

Strong instructional, classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Cultural Awareness Promote an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment.

Build respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Working Conditions Complete required trainings and maintain professional standards.

Participate in school activities and meetings as assigned.

Physical Demands Stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, supervise students, and respond to emergencies as needed.
