The Educational Specialist II plays a critical role in advancing K-12 Social Studies programming by designing, developing, and refining high-quality instructional materials, including scope and sequence documents, lesson plans, and professional learning resources. The Specialist collaborates closely with teacher developers and leads key components of professional learning to ensure that instructionisrigorous, inquiry-based,culturally responsive, and inclusive. The Educational Specialist alsoworks with other stakeholders such as school leaders, district office team,vendors, and community partners to implement strategic initiatives defined by the Social Studies Office, ensuring alignment, coherence, and a shared vision across the K-12 social studies program.

• Supports the development, coordination, and refinement of K-12 social studies curriculum and assessments aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and the MSDE Social Studies Framework.
• Identifies and incorporates research-based instructional practices to strengthen social studies teaching and learning.
• Designs andfacilitatesprofessional learning that promotes high-quality, inquiry-driven, and culturally responsive instruction.
• Assists teachers, teacher leaders, and school teams with curriculum implementation, effective instructional practices, and classroom resources.
• Uses data, student work, and educator feedback todetermineneeds and guide instructional support.
• Participates in reviewing and selecting instructional materials and digital tools for social studies.
• Supports and co-coordinates district initiatives, including Baltimore City History Day and partnerships with local cultural organizations.
• Builds andmaintainscollaborative relationships with district offices, community partners, and cultural institutions to strengthen social studies programming.
• Ensures social studies content is equitable, reflects multiple perspectives, and supports all learners.
• Conducts school visits and provides targeted school-level support as needed.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to advance social studies instruction across City Schools.
• Maintains and manages instructional communication platforms, including the elementary, middle, and high school Social Studies websites and the CANVAS platform.
• Attends meetings and performsadditionalduties as requested by the Social Studies Coordinator and Director.
• Serves as an educational liaison with district personnel, administrators, teachers, and parents by responding to Social Studies-related inquiries.
• Carries out all responsibilities in alignment with federal and state law, Board policies, and professional standards.
• Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work;participate sand contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
• Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.

• Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institute of higher education. Master's degree preferred.
• Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional licensure with a Social Studies endorsement.
• At least five years of relevant full-time professional experience.
• At least three years' experience teaching Social Studies.
• At least three years' experience developingK-12 Social Studies curriculum, demonstrating deep content knowledge and a sustained record of successful implementation.
• Comprehensive understanding of MSDE Social Studies Content Standards; the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework; and the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.
