Summary

The Adjunct Faculty for SAT Math Preparation provides engaging, high-quality instruction to high school students preparing for the math section of the SAT. The instructor helps students strengthen the mathematics skills assessed on the SAT while developing effective test‑taking strategies, problem‑solving approaches, time management skills, calculator strategies, and confidence in a test‑taking environment.

Instruction includes SAT‑aligned mathematics content and multi‑step problems with applications in science, social science, career scenarios, and other real‑life contexts. Students entering the course are expected to have completed Algebra II.

This position requires an instructor who can do more than teach mathematics content. The successful candidate must be able to help students understand how to strategically approach SAT Math questions, recognize different question types, select efficient problem‑solving methods, and effectively manage their time during the exam. The instructor must also be proficient in Desmos and able to teach students how to effectively use the Desmos graphing calculator as a problem‑solving and test‑taking tool.

The course incorporates SAT‑style practice questions, exercises, and simulated testing experiences to help students become familiar with the content, format, technology, and expectations of the SAT.

Essential Role Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, student‑centered SAT Math instruction to high school students.
  • Teach mathematics concepts and skills assessed on the SAT, including Algebra II level content and multi‑step problem solving.
  • Teach SAT‑specific test‑taking strategies, including approaches to different question types, time management, calculator use, elimination strategies, and efficient problem solving.
  • Demonstrate and teach effective use of the Desmos graphing calculator to solve appropriate SAT Math problems.
  • Help students determine when Desmos is the most efficient problem‑solving strategy and when another mathematical approach may be faster or more appropriate.
  • Provide students with opportunities to practice using Desmos while solving SAT‑style questions.
  • Use SAT‑style practice questions, exercises, and practice tests to reinforce mathematics content and test‑taking strategies.
  • Create opportunities for students to practice working within SAT testing conditions and time constraints.
  • Identify areas in which individual students need additional support and provide clear explanations using multiple instructional approaches.
  • Help students build confidence in their mathematics abilities and develop strategies for approaching challenging or unfamiliar questions.
  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation, persistence, and growth.
