The Department of History at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a full-time position in Medieval European and/or Mediterranean History (400-1500) at the rank of Associate Professor (with tenure) or advanced Assistant (tenure-track) Professor to begin July 1, 2027. The department seeks to hire a leading scholar in the field with an ambitious research agenda and a significant research profile, a demonstrable commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a willingness to engage in conversations across history and the humanities.
Scholars whose work focuses on the history of Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Near East for any period from 400-1500 will be considered, though preference will be given to those working across geographical regions and whose temporal and methodological focus complements strengths in the department. The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Salary RangeThe referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
