Position Summary

The Energy Auditor conducts residential energy audits to Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards, performs Quick Home Energy Check-ups (QHECs) with direct-install measures, and develops detailed work scopes for weatherization contractors. The role combines strong technical skills with excellent customer service and the ability to educate clients on energy efficiency, conservation, and available program incentives. QHECs consist of installing all applicable direct-install energy efficiency measures, and completing all required documentation and applications within BGE's mobile platform, Sightline.

The Energy Auditor will also complete Energy Audits and will be responsible for energy modeling and the preparation of written reports, outlining a prioritized sequence of home improvements that will ultimately result in energy conservation, reduced operating costs, improved comfort, and improved health and safety.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Energy Audits and Quick Home Energy Check-ups:
    • Install quick energy-saving products (e.g. LEDs, shower heads, aerators, pipe insulation, door sweeps, surge protectors, weatherstripping, and smart thermostats), adhering to protocols and eligibility requirements.
    • Adhere to industry standards, best practices, and protocols, including the Building Performance Institute standards and the expectations of contracts with customers, utilities, government, and private funders.
    • Complete comprehensive residential energy audits, without sacrificing quality, including completing "blower door" air infiltration testing, combustion safety testing, gas leak detection, infrared imaging, and ventilation testing.
    • Assess homes for health and safety concerns related to weatherization work, including moisture, mold, ventilation, electrical, combustion appliances, and structural issues.
    • Enter detailed data and test results into energy modeling software and revise modeling as necessary (e.g. Beacon and Sightline).
    • Complete formal reports detailing the energy audit findings.
    • Develop detailed weatherization work scopes, pricing, measures and quantities to be completed by subcontractors. Work with Quality Control Manager and program staff to align work scopes with field crew best practices and contract requirements.
    • Maintain efficient turnaround time for the substantial quantity of formal reports (including the modeling and work scope).
    • Confirm appointment dates and times.
    • Contact customers to fill gaps in the installation schedule.
    • Submit daily reports on all work completed, including digital job forms and tagged verification photos as required.
    • Interact with residents to ensure customer satisfaction and effective energy education.
  • Customer Service / Energy
