Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Sr. Staff Microelectronic Semiconductors Engineer with the desire to learn new technologies to join our Hardware Engineering Organization to help develop, enhance and analyze cutting edge products and systems. Candidates will work on electronic hardware for mission systems.

We are looking for you to join our team as a Senior Staff Microelectronics Semiconductor Engineer based out of Linthicum, MD.

Summary Of Role

As a Sr. Staff Microelectronic Semiconductors Engineer within the Reliability Analysis Laboratory, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our hardware engineering organization. We are seeking an experienced modeling and Simulation engineer to lead thermo‑mechanical and structural analysis for advanced semiconductor packaging technologies. In this role, you will be the cornerstone in evaluating new packaging architectures, materials, and interconnects for flip‑chip devices and high‑performance ICs.

You will closely collaborate with materials, design, manufacturing and test engineering to ensure continuous product performance meets and exceeds customer requirements.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Perform 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess stress, vibrational, warpage, and thermo‑mechanical behavior throughout advanced semiconductor packaging platforms (e.g., flip‑chip, 2.5D/3D IC, chiplet integration)
  • Influence design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines and contribute to long‑term technology roadmaps by aligning simulation predictions with JEDEC reliability standards and accelerated life testing.
  • Investigate and identify root causes of failure mechanisms of components and device‑level failures driven by design parameters or manufacturing defects
  • Provide guidance on design of experiments to define appropriate tests for test‑to‑model correlation
  • Partner with hardware, process, and test engineering teams to translate modeling insights into viable, production‑ready package designs
  • Collaborate with cross‑discipline teams of engineers to determine root cause and provide corrective action for improving reliability life cycle within design, manufacturing and qualification
  • Actively participate in technical reviews to share technical analysis results with program stakeholders
