Job Description & How to Apply Below
Our Baltimore-based Transportation team is looking for a motivated Roadway Engineer who brings strong technical and design management skills to support highway-related infrastructure projects across Maryland. This role gives you the opportunity to contribute to multi‑disciplinary transportation projects focused on highway, roadway, and interchange improvements throughout the Baltimore region and the state.
You will serve as a mid-level Roadway Design Engineer on major Maryland transportation projects-supporting preliminary and final design and preparing documentation that meets the standards and requirements of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA), Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), and local county and city governments.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Provide technical expertise across all aspects of highway and roadway design within Maryland, including design‑bid‑build and design‑build delivery.
- Prepare roadway designs using MDOT SHA, MDTA, and local jurisdiction standards, as well as applicable AASHTO criteria.
- Develop plans from conceptual through final design including geometrics, maintenance of traffic, traffic control, and roadway drainage consistent with Maryland design manuals and specifications.
- Develop 3D models that comply with MDOT SHA and other agency design standards while integrating designs from other disciplines into a cohesive model.
- Prepare specifications, engineer's estimates, bid packages, and supporting engineering reports.
- Coordinate daily with multi‑discipline teams (drainage, structures, traffic, public involvement, environmental).
- Support plan quality reviews and participate in value engineering studies.
- Lead and coordinate work of design engineers and technicians; ensure schedules and budgets are maintained.
- Engage with management on technical approaches, cost controls, scheduling, and upcoming pursuit opportunities.

- Strong understanding of AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, and Maryland‑specific standards including MDOT SHA drainage, traffic control, and design manuals.
- Experience with roadway geometrics, final design, and transportation technical documentation.
