The Director of Construction Procurement will be a key leader responsible for managing and optimizing EPC partnerships, contracts, and procurement processes across a rapidly growing portfolio of solar and energy storage projects. This individual will oversee all facets of EPC engagement from pre-qualification and pricing strategy to contract negotiation and compliance, ensuring high performance, risk mitigation, and timely project execution. This is a highly cross-functional role, interfacing with Engineering, Legal, Safety, and Field Operations to support development, construction, and repowering efforts.
What You'll Do:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with EPC contractors across the U.S.
- Lead pre-qualification of new EPC partners, including diligence, onboarding, and compliance oversight.
- Monitor EPC pricing trends and market conditions by region and build type (e.g., rooftop, canopy, tracker).
- Develop and manage competitive EPC RFP processes, including scope development and bid evaluations.
- Negotiate EPC contracts aligned with organizational standards, financial goals, and risk tolerance.
- Provide expertise in insurance, bonding, and contractual risk management for EPC agreements.
- Support handoffs to implementation teams and help resolve internal-EPC conflicts during execution.
- Forecast EPC costs and manage purchase orders and invoice workflows.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as IRA, PWA, and federal/state permitting.
- Drive initiatives to reduce project cycle times and enhance cost-efficiency.
- Partner with Engineering and O&M teams to update EPC contract templates and best practices.
- Oversee EPC services for repowering and emerging technologies like BESS and EV infrastructure.
- Manage external consultants supporting EPC development activities.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in EPC services within solar, renewables, or construction.
- 3+ years of experience in commercial/industrial procurement (may overlap with EPC experience).
- Deep knowledge of DG solar system construction and contracting.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex EPC contracts and manage risk.
- Familiarity with IRA, PWA, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong understanding of KPIs such as schedule, safety, and cost forecasting.
- Field experience with solar installations and commissioning preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project; familiarity with AutoCAD and Pro Core is a plus.
- Professional, detail-oriented, and effective in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Excellent communication skills across technical and executive audiences.
