Position Summary

This position is responsible for operating multiple Veolia contracted client water and wastewater facilities. The primary purpose is to cover vacations and absences at existing facilities, assist in the training and development of local operations teams, and serve in a support role at new account start-ups. The position will assist with the overall operation and maintenance of accounts in the region, including process changes to meet compliance, troubleshooting processes and equipment, maintenance (routine, reactive, and preventive), process and compliance sampling, laboratory testing, and writing and distributing a daily shift report.

Between assignments at designated accounts, this role will develop training resources for general water and wastewater industry knowledge and site-specific treatment training for all technicians in the region. This position requires significant travel, sometimes for extended periods, ranging from 1–2 weeks away from home at a time to up to a month in extenuating circumstances.

Essential Operational Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain complete operational coverage of Veolia-operated facilities in the designated region as vacations and unplanned absences arise, including day and night shifts with significant scheduling flexibility.
  • Assist in the operational development of local technicians within the region through in-person training visits to multiple sites, development of electronic training materials and resources, and directing training efforts of individual technicians; provide additional training for all new technicians as they are hired.
  • Ensure that industry standards and best practices are in use at all Veolia-operated facilities in the region, including recordkeeping methods, lab testing procedures, operational practices, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Support new account start-up projects by working with the SWOT team to develop operational tasks, procedures, and goals, and by training newly hired technicians.
  • Provide knowledgeable support to local technicians to troubleshoot process issues and promote proactive decisions on a regular basis.
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of water into the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities at the designated testing frequency.
  • Maintain accurate records of client data such as residual chemical content, water turbidity, and water pressure.
  • Comply with Veolia safety parameters and programs.
  • Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance.
  • May be responsible for compiling data for the Environmental Protection Agency or state regulatory body.
  • Coordinate with other operators to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and operations across facilities, and consult with management to determine best treatment approaches.
Essential Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with multiple entities to schedule third-party maintenance for projects outside Veolia's scope of work.
  • Complete all preventive maintenance defined by Veolia and multiple management at the designated frequency, with documentation of all PM tasks (e.g., changing filters, changing oil, greasing bearings, documenting operating temperatures, exercising valves).
  • Complete or assist in completion of minor maintenance projects to keep the wastewater treatment facility operating effectively and efficiently (e.g., chemical pump repair and replacement, small PVC piping installations, valve replacement, pump repairs, check-valve cleanouts and repairs).
  • Complete or assist in completion of intermediate maintenance projects to ensure continued operation (e.g., replacing mechanical seal components, impellers, PVC line replacements, pump replacements, check-valve cleanouts and repairs).
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Willingness and availability to work with fellow operators on off-shifts when problems arise or assistance is needed.
  • 24/7 availability to Wastewater operators and multiple management.
  • Communicate frequently with the Account Manager regarding operation status, compliance, maintenance, and personnel issues.
  • Provide supervision and leadership by exemplifying hard work, attention to detail, fair treatment, and responsibility for results.
  • Provide direction on daily operation and maintenance to ensure compliance, including process changes, chemical feed rates, maintenance activities, and additional sampling.
  • Provide training and/or facilitate training of operators for all facets of operation and management of the Wastewater facility.
  • Provide clear verbal and written instructions to the team on operation and maintenance and create facility-specific SOPs.
  • Continually optimize plant operation, chemistry, and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
