Job Summary
The Maryland Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) seeks a Project Manager to provide leadership and oversight of public school facility projects across the state. The Project Manager will guide Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in planning, design, construction, and operations to maintain an educationally sufficient and fiscally sustainable portfolio of facilities. The role supports IAC decarbonization efforts, contracts, life‑cycle cost analysis, and portfolio planning to reduce future ownership costs.
The position is a hybrid role, with employees working Monday through Friday on a hybrid remote/in‑person basis.

LOCATION:
351 W. Camden Street, Suite 701, Baltimore, MD 21201
- Guides and supports all assigned LEAs’ facilities planning, design, and construction activities.
- Manages special projects related to decarbonization, including contract supervision and recommending life‑cycle cost analysis standards.
- Visits existing schools and construction sites to advise LEAs on school facilities matters from concept planning through construction, maintenance, and operations (M&O).
- Develops strategies to ensure safe, healthy, and educationally sufficient facilities, including capital and operational funding, facility management procedures, M&O staffing ratios, and the overall facility management process.
- Collaborates regularly with all IAC departments to develop new processes supporting statewide decarbonization.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of experience as a design or project engineer or architect for large‑scale multi‑year construction projects.
- Master’s degree in engineering or architecture may substitute up to one year of the required experience.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in Maryland (or a state with comparable requirements) may substitute for the required education.
- Military service as a commissioned officer in the Civil Engineer Corps, Engineering Aid classifications, or related specialties may substitute for the required education and experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience with building systems and proficiency in local, state, and national codes, drawing review, and construction technology/management software.
- Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in facilities planning, construction project management, engineering, or architectural roles related to building or system services.
- Experience managing large‑scale school or commercial construction projects.
Employees may be required to operate a motor vehicle. A valid class C driver’s license in Maryland is required for such duties.
