Salary Range: $67,117 - $104,184 per year (Hiring Salary Range: $67,117 – $67,117 per year).
Job SummaryA Pollution Control Analyst III assigns, reviews and gives work direction to subordinate pollution control analysts or performs specialized pollution investigation work. The role may involve leading lower level analysts but does not include full supervisory duties. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior and work a conventional workweek; occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. Work is performed primarily in an office environment;
occasional sampling work may involve uncomfortable conditions.
- Assign, review, and direct work of subordinate analysts.
- Coordinate activities with other jurisdictions.
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Train others.
- Analyze data and prepare technical statistical reports.
- Use computer to analyze chemical data.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or a related field from an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Three years of pollution investigation and control work in stormwater management, wastewater treatment plant, design of treatment or drainage facilities, water, wastewater or soils laboratories, pollution or erosion control, or soils studies. - Equivalency:
Additional experience can substitute for the degree on a year‑for‑year basis. - Alternative:
Current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists may substitute for the required education.
- Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license (or equivalent) and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional or learner permits are not acceptable. Upload a copy of a valid driver’s license with the application.
- Registered Environmental Health Specialist license (from Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists) must be possessed and maintained.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of pollution investigation and control principles and practices.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures related to waste or soil studies, treatment and drainage facilities, geology and soil management.
- Knowledge of engineering principles related to pollution studies, stormwater management, wastewater treatment, drainage or soils management.
- Knowledge of pollution control analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of statistics.
- Ability to assign, review, and give work direction to subordinate analysts.
- Ability to coordinate activities with other jurisdictions.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare technical statistical reports.
- Ability to use a computer to analyze chemical data.
Eligible candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint authorization. All selected personnel, including current City employees, must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period.
