Position: Highway Discipline Manager (Transportation Design Engineer VII)

Job Summary

MDTA owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprising four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across Maryland. For over 50 years, MDTA has provided safe, secure, and convenient transportation to Maryland citizens and visitors. Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage, plan, and design complex highway projects including major interchange projects, toll plaza projects, minor facility rehabilitation projects, and highway studies.
  • Coordinate public involvement aspects of highway projects, overseeing preparation for public meetings, workshops, handouts, display boards, and graphic exhibits.
  • Attend public meetings to address citizen questions related to highway projects.
  • Review and evaluate technical proposals for consultant contract selection.
  • Contract Management: evaluate project schedules and resources to ensure timely completion, assess cost efficiency and scope, monitor task progress, issues, budgets, and track invoices.
  • Manage and preserve highway pavements and traffic barrier assets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license is required; evidence must be presented at appointment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing highway engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer, with at least two (2) years involving supervision of employees or a design team.
  • Extensive experience in highway engineering design and project management, including development and review of highway plans, specifications, estimates, and coordination for permitting and procurement.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in the Federal Government.
Licensing & Certifications

Applicants must possess a current Professional Engineer license acceptable to Maryland or obtain one within twelve (12) months of appointment. Provide license number, issue date, and expiration date. Employees in this role are required to hold a valid Maryland motor‑vehicle operator’s license; list the license number and expiration date.

Additional Information

Employees may be subject to emergency recall 24 hours a day and may need to maintain a reliable communication link.
