Key Responsibilities
  • Support teamwork efforts to design, manufacture, and test equipment on crewed and unmanned surface vessels and submersible systems, including the vessels themselves.
  • Engineer vessel hull designs and modifications, drive trains, electromechanical components, sensor arches, removable hatches, mechanical and shipboard handling equipment, winches, capture and release devices, motors, pumps, operator interfaces, wiring harnesses, sensors, and microprocessors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and integrate equipment on customer vessels.
  • Assist in developing design data ranging from fabrication drawings through system descriptions, diagrams, technical reports, and customer presentations.
  • Coordinate with project personnel to ensure program requirements and expectations are met timely.
  • Contribute to the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical systems, components, and structures.
  • Support prototyping, virtual and physical testing, troubleshooting, and evaluation of components and systems in lab, shop, and field environments.
  • Assist in planning and executing project tasks, including technical design, documentation, and schedule tracking.
  • Generate and manage 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Coordinate with fabrication teams (machine shops, welders, technicians) and cross‑disciplinary engineering teams (electrical, controls, systems).
  • Independently solve straightforward engineering challenges using established methods and tools.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals to solve technical challenges under guidance and mentorship of senior engineers.
  • Support compliance with project requirements, engineering standards, and customer specifications.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical discipline from an ABET‑accredited school.
  • Three to six years’ experience as a mechanical engineer with emphasis on design engineering, maritime equipment, ship integration, test and evaluation, uncrewed systems, or related topics.
  • Significant 3D CAD modeling experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to board and traverse boats and ships.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing mechanical and/or machine design from concepts through production and testing.
  • Strong Solid Works 3D CAD skills.
  • Experience with Solid Works Simulation Finite Element Analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated project management and/or team leadership experience on small to medium projects.
  • Mechanical aptitude and intuition with experience in design, testing, and production of electromechanical or robotic systems.
  • Design engineering experience with a wide variety of components, structures, and systems.
  • Willingness to work in a rapid prototyping and testing environment.
  • Interest in maritime activities, structures, and/or vehicles.
  • Experience coordinating and working with machine shops, welders, fabrication technicians, and other engineering staff, including electrical and controls engineers.
  • Existing U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Technical curiosity and desire to conceptualize, design, build, and test a wide range of evolving projects from the seafloor to aerospace systems.
  • Desire and ability to travel for testing and demonstrations.
Salary

$40 – $52 an hour.
