Senior Manufacturing Engineer
We are partnering with a cutting‑edge advanced nuclear energy company building the next generation of clean, reliable power, helping shape the future of energy by providing dependable, always‑on power that supports economic growth while accelerating the transition to a low‑carbon world. We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer responsible for translating complex nuclear component designs into manufacturable products for the client’s small modular reactor program.
Location:
Rockville, MD
Work Schedule:
4 days a week in office
Travel Expectations:
Travel, International and Domestic, between 25%-50%
- Translate complex nuclear component designs into manufacturable products for advanced reactor applications.
- Develop mechanical and physical concepts, structures, systems, and components (SSCs) with a focus on nuclear safety.
- Define and document design requirements, interfaces, design bases, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Perform engineering analyses and calculations (structural, thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical) to verify design performance and compliance with technical requirements.
- Design and develop reactor‑related mechanical systems and components, including pressure vessels, piping, reactor internals, nuclear fuel systems, and high‑temperature materials applications.
- Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, assembly, integration, and production readiness.
- Develop and support Verification & Validation (V&V) plans for engineering tools and methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance, design control, and configuration management requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and cross‑functional engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide technical oversight of manufacturing, fabrication, testing, and assembly activities.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and production issues, delivering practical engineering solutions.
- Conduct independent technical reviews of engineering deliverables and data.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within project teams.
- Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and engineering best practices.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (Nuclear, Aerospace, Chemical, etc.). Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering may be considered in lieu of a portion of required experience. - Technical
Experience:
Experience designing and developing mechanical systems, fluid systems, assemblies, or engineered components; proficiency in engineering calculations and analytical methods; experience supporting hardware development, manufacturing processes, testing, and product delivery; knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles; experience with hardware ownership, including manufacturing and testing oversight; familiarity with heavy manufacturing environments and first‑of‑a‑kind (FOAK) component production; experience troubleshooting manufacturing and production challenges. - Software & Tools:
Proficiency with CAD and PLM systems, such as NX (preferred), Solid Works, Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), Teamcenter, Windchill, and similar engineering software platforms. - Preferred Qualifications:
ASME pressure vessel or nuclear component manufacturing experience (Section III preferred; Section VIII minimum); knowledge of weld engineering, AWS standards, and ASME BPVC Section IX; experience with machining, fabrication, and assembly processes; understanding of Non‑Destructive Examination (NDE) methods and design considerations for inspection accessibility; strong vendor management and supplier collaboration experience; ability to work independently while providing technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced engineers;
readiness to tackle complex engineering challenges and bring cutting‑edge nuclear technology to life.
