In this position, you will design innovative custom metal products and develop and implement manufacturing methods and processes. Essential Functions:
Product Design:
Design products based on customer requirements, sales input, and plant manufacturing capabilities.
CAD & Print Creation:
Use Autodesk Inventor to create detailed CAD models and production-ready prints.
Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
Support Sales and our Customers with DFM guidance.
Project Management:
Complete projects on time, based on the engineering and production schedules.
Product Validation:
Perform product inspections that adhere to quality standards set by Marlin Steel and/or clients.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, and quality control standards
Competencies
Understanding of mechanical engineering principles
Computer aided design (CAD) software
Interpreting mechanical drawings, designs, and models
Production and processing – knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
Mathematics and Physics Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works, or a comparable 3D modeling software
Flexibility and Ability to handle and prioritize several activities/projects at once Strong communication and collaboration skills
Microsoft Office proficiency
Preferred Qualifications Experience in fabricated metal products
Cost analysis methods and project quoting
Problem solving, project management, and analytical skills
Ability to strategically think and analyze the needs of clients
Grace under pressure and the ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Exceptional planning, time management, and organizational skills
Work Environment Primarily office-based with production floor exposure. Use of PPE (safety-toe shoes, protective eyewear, etc.) is required.
Travel Minimal travel for customer or vendor site visits (0-15% of the time)
