Controls Engineer 4
As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, installation, and maintenance of equipment used to monitor and control systems, machinery, and processes. Your expertise will be applied across various applications such as industrial controls, cybersecurity, building automation, water and wastewater management, power controls and protection, energy management, and transportation systems. You will leverage your technical skills in advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems to design and implement solutions for complex customer needs.
Responsibilities- Design and originate documents for small projects and support large programs.
- Conduct requirements analysis, subsystem designs, and prepare specifications.
- Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
- Lead programming and configuration efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems with protocols like DNP3, Modbus, SEL Fast Messaging, or Mirrored Bits.
- Author testing and commissioning procedures and prepare test reports.
- Commission deployed systems and develop test fixtures and simulation devices.
- Perform factory and field testing.
- Troubleshoot service calls and perform hardware/software upgrades on existing systems.
- Conduct surveys, inspections, and prepare cost estimates for projects.
- Assist experienced engineers with bids and proposals.
- Assign and coordinate tasks with entry-level engineers and technical staff.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA, switch gear, SEL, RTAC, generator controls, and substations.
- Bachelor's degree with 7+ years or Master's degree with 5+ years in electrical, automation, or other engineering fields.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in the electric utilities sector.
- Minimum of 5 years specializing in solution architecture.
- Proficiency in real-time grid management with systems like ADMS, DERMS, SCADA, and EMS.
- Experience with vendor software systems such as Aspen, Siemens, ABB, General Electric, Schneider Electric, OSIsoft, Honeywell, Oracle Utilities, Eaton, PcVue, Inductive Ignition, or similar products.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in reading electrical and control schematics and plans.
- Experience in control system startup, configuration, and calibration.
- Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting control systems.
- Experience using basic electrical and machinist hand tools, as well as industry-specific tools.
This position is based in Baltimore, MD, with support required in Frederick and Ft Meade, necessitating travel as needed. You will be part of the PCS (power control systems) group within a large and reputable company. The standard work shift is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
