Position: Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary), Journeyman

THOR Solutions – Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary)

We are actively seeking a highly motivated mid‑level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and weight handling systems calculations and analyses, and familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies.
Location

Full‑time on‑site at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity

Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion, periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments, and traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Pay Range

The anticipated pay range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Security Clearance

Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is required. This position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance, to be obtained after hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
    • Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
