** CLASS DEFINITION
** A Maintenance Manager Mechanical Pumping plans and directs the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and all pumping stations. Work of this class involves supervising the activities of maintenance technician and equipment operations for all pumping stations.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek: callback or overtime may be required in emergencies. Work is performed primarily in an office; however, incumbents may be required to be present at work sites where there may be exposure to hazardous chemicals such as chlorine, methane, polymers, hydrogen, sulfide, waste pickle liquor, lime and ferric chloride and pathogenic bacteria and viruses.

Work requires minimal physical exertion.
** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* EDUCATION:

** Have A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
** AND
* **
* EXPERIENCE:

** Have four years of experience in performing mechanical engineering work including such supervisory responsibilities as disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.
** OR
* *** NOTES EQUIVALENCY:
** Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of supervisory experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems may be substituted for each year of the experience requirement.

*** Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
* Knowledge of the equipment, tools and materials used in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and pumping station.
* Knowledge of safety precautions for maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
* Ability to apply engineering principles and practices to design and installation problems.
* Ability to review plans and specifications and make corrective recommendations.
* Ability to develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for mechanical equipment.
* Ability to make field inspections to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
* Ability to evaluate new materials, tools and equipment and make recommendations.
* Ability to write technical reports.
* Ability to work effectively with others.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
