Structural Engineer

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of structural and geostructural systems for a variety of commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects.

This position will work closely with geotechnical engineers, project managers, contractors, architects, and other technical professionals to develop practical and cost-effective structural solutions. The ideal candidate has experience with foundations, retaining structures, structural evaluations, excavation support, and other structural systems where building and subsurface conditions must be carefully coordinated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for new construction, renovations, rehabilitation, and specialty engineering projects.
  • Design foundations, retaining walls, structural supports, substructures, and other structural systems.
  • Support the design of earth-retaining structures, excavation support systems, sheeting, shoring, underpinning, and specialty foundation systems.
  • Evaluate existing structures and develop recommendations for repair, reinforcement, or rehabilitation.
  • Prepare structural calculations, engineering reports, specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Review architectural, civil, geotechnical, and structural plans to identify coordination and constructability concerns.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to evaluate soil-structure interaction and develop appropriate foundation and structural solutions.
  • Perform field observations and structural assessments of existing buildings and construction conditions.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and contractor documentation during construction.
  • Provide technical support to field inspection and construction materials testing teams.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with forensic investigations and evaluations of structural deficiencies or failures.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions that balance structural performance, constructability, safety, and cost.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining project schedules and technical quality.
  • Prepare technical proposals, scopes of work, and project cost estimates as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–8+ years of structural engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for more experienced candidates.
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis, engineering mechanics, and building construction.
  • Experience designing concrete, steel, masonry, wood, or foundation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, civil, and geotechnical drawings.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with geostructural engineering or soil-structure interaction.
  • Experience designing retaining walls, deep foundations, underpinning, sheeting, shoring, or excavation support systems.
  • Experience evaluating and rehabilitating existing structures.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and design software.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design platforms.
  • Knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, TMS, and other applicable structural standards.
  • Experience supporting commercial, residential, industrial, education, healthcare, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with field investigations and construction-phase engineering.
