Production Manager and Technical Director
The Stage Operations Technician is a full time, salaried position. Overtime is expected based on production needs, but must be approved by the supervisor in advance. Salary range is $42,000-$44,000 commensurate with experience and paid bi-weekly. The Stage Operations Technician is a critical member of the production department who primarily works with Stage and Production Management to maintain a safe and productive environment backstage. Primary responsibility is to coordinate with stage management and technical direction to ensure the consistent and safe running of all technical rehearsals, previews, and performances.
The Stage Operations Technician reports to the Production Manager and Technical Director and will be assigned stagehand and/or board operator responsibilities for each production throughout theseason. They assist the Stage Management team in preparing rehearsal and backstage spaces. This position also assists other production departments between productions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Attend First Rehearsal, Design Rehearsal Runs, Onstage spacing rehearsals, all technical rehearsals and performances
- Attend weekly production department meetings around performance schedule.
- Diligently maintain a safe working environment backstage for cast and crew
- Work with the Stage Managers, Designers, and Directors to plan reliable scenery transitions. Execute and oversee stage operations in coordination with Stage management
- Coordinate and execute scenery and props transitions with run crew and stage management, including automation control.
- Maintain the quality and integrity of stage, set, and prop elements. Perform minor repairs to scenery and props as needed and assist board operators with any show repairs and replacements.
- Assist with the training of other members of the run crew
- Help set up rehearsal and backstage spaces, including stage management supply, first-aid and hospitality, and tech tables
- As primary production schedule allows, may be asked to perform Stage Management/Board-Operator duties for secondary events throughout the year
- Reset stage operation stations and supplies between productions
- Communicate stage operation needs with Production Management
- Relate best practices as well as guidance from department supervisors, stage management and production management to other members of the run crew.
- Swing for other backstage tracks as assigned by Production Management
- Work with other production departments between show runs
- Other duties as assigned
- At least 3 years of technical theatrical experience
- 1-2 year of backstage show operation experience (or an equivalent number of productions)
- Must be available to work reasonable overtime on weekends and evenings during technical rehearsals, previews and performances.
- Organized and a clear communicator
- Able to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time and have full range of motion
- Basic familiarity with rigging, lighting and/or sound systems
- Experience with stage carpentry, stage lighting or audio/visual equipment preferred
- Familiarity with Creative Conners Spike Mark software operation a bonus
- An ability to give and take constructive criticism, follow direction ,and respond to changing circumstances quickly and with a positive attitude.
