Accounting Manager

ONSITE IN BALTIMORE COUNTY

Candidates MUST have P&C/Insurance Accounting Experience

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will report directly to the CFO and play a critical role in overseeing financial reporting, statutory compliance, and core accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Property & Casualty insurance accounting, with hands-on experience in statutory reporting and regulatory filings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, including NAIC filings
  • Support annual audits and coordinate directly with external auditors and regulatory bodies
  • Perform account reconciliations and detailed variance analysis
  • Analyze premium, loss, and expense activity
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and executive reporting
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Partner closely with the CFO on strategic financial initiatives and special projects
  • Ensure compliance with all insurance regulatory requirements and reporting deadlines
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience within a Property & Casualty insurance environment
  • Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
  • Experience with NAIC filings, regulatory reporting, reinsurance accounting, and premium tax reporting
  • Proficiency with Sage and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA-eligible
  • Exposure to specialty lines such as surety, warranty, or surplus lines
  • Prior experience working directly with insurance regulators and external auditors
