Accounting Manager
ONSITE IN BALTIMORE COUNTY
Candidates MUST have P&C/Insurance Accounting Experience
Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager will report directly to the CFO and play a critical role in overseeing financial reporting, statutory compliance, and core accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Property & Casualty insurance accounting, with hands-on experience in statutory reporting and regulatory filings.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, including NAIC filings
- Support annual audits and coordinate directly with external auditors and regulatory bodies
- Perform account reconciliations and detailed variance analysis
- Analyze premium, loss, and expense activity
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and executive reporting
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
- Partner closely with the CFO on strategic financial initiatives and special projects
- Ensure compliance with all insurance regulatory requirements and reporting deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting experience within a Property & Casualty insurance environment
- Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Experience with NAIC filings, regulatory reporting, reinsurance accounting, and premium tax reporting
- Proficiency with Sage and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- CPA or CPA-eligible
- Exposure to specialty lines such as surety, warranty, or surplus lines
- Prior experience working directly with insurance regulators and external auditors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Professional discretion in handling sensitive financial information
