Position: Fiscal Accounts Clerk I Revenue Administration Division

Position

Fiscal accounts clerk I – Comptroller of Maryland’s Revenue Administration Division.

Location:

Annapolis, Maryland. Grade: 8.

Position Duties

Responsible for reviewing, verifying, recording, and adjusting financial transactions related to tax returns. Duties include researching and applying payments to various taxpayer accounts, preparing and depositing check payments promptly, and maintaining accurate records in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to work as a team player.

Telework may become available after a six‑month probation period.

PLEASE NOTE

The employee may be required to work evenings and/or Saturdays during the Tax Season, defined as the period from January 15 to May 15.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One year of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting, and balancing financial transactions.
  • Substitution options (one year of experience for each):
    • Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical, or other numerical data.
    • Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university.
    • A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting‑related training on the following subjects: journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
    • U.S. Armed Forces military service in a financial clerical/finance technician classification or specialty code.
    • For education obtained outside the U.S., proof of an equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with remittance processing systems.
  • Experience in data entry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Selection Considerations

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and must not have any disqualifying criminal history. Disqualifying charges include any felony, crime of moral turpitude (e.g., embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion, bribery), identity theft or impersonation, assault or battery, and any crime involving a controlled dangerous substance other than marijuana.
