About the Opportunity
This position offers the opportunity to oversee critical finance operations, lead process improvement initiatives, manage staff, and play a key role in budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, and capital project accounting. The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on accounting and finance professional who enjoys balancing day‑to‑day operational oversight with strategic financial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies.
- Manage budgeting activities, financial reporting, and general ledger functions.
- Lead cash management activities, including banking relationships, investments, treasury functions, and credit card administration.
- Oversee capital project accounting, reporting, and reimbursement processes.
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
- Review and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with technology and reporting teams to enhance financial systems and reporting capabilities.
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, forecasting activities, and financial analysis.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members.
- Prepare financial reports for internal leadership, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives across the finance function.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience with audits, cash management, and financial systems.
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Experience with in higher education, nonprofit, government, or other complex organizational environments.
- Experience with capital project accounting, grant accounting, or fund accounting.
- CPA or CPA‑track candidates are encouraged to apply.
