Overview

We are seeking an Associate Director of Finance for University Student Services (USS). This position reports to the Sr. Director of Finance and Operations for USS and oversees and performs key financial functions for Auxiliary Services and Student Health and Well-Being. The role conducts complex financial analysis and planning and provides back-up for the finance leadership of USS. This position directly supervises 2 Sr Finance Managers, indirectly supervises 3 finance staff, and directly supervises finance staff.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Sr. Director of Finance and the Director of Finance in the development of annual operating and capital budgets for Auxiliary Services, including University housing and residential life (Homewood campus), residential and retail dining, scheduling and event services, as well as retail leases and campus partner commissions. The Auxiliary Services portfolio includes ten residence halls and five self-operated dining venues.

  • Partner with the Sr. Director of Finance and the Director of Finance in the development of annual operating and capital budgets for Student Health and Well-Being, including primary care and mental health clinical services, health promotions and wellness services, student disability services, and the Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team in support of students across the university.

  • Partner with the finance leader of the unit and other key leaders to develop annual operating and capital budgets in their designated areas.

  • Perform trending analysis and work with finance staff and administrative leadership to develop projections and forecasts.

  • Identify potential financial risks and collaborate with the finance leader of the unit to address issues with strategic approaches.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual financial reports, reconciliations and analyses.

  • Train and coach departmental finance staff and administrative leaders in effective financial management.

  • Work with administrative leaders and finance staff to resolve budget issues and other financial reporting, compliance, and audit issues.

  • Review and authorize transactions as necessary to ensure expenditures comply with institutional policies and governmental regulations.

  • Partner with the finance leader of the unit in the development of financial models in support of new initiatives and programs/products.

  • Design and maintain financial models to evaluate “what if” scenarios reflecting possible changes in key areas.

  • Perform research, investigation, and financial review of new proposals for expansion or enhancement.

  • Serve as backup for the finance leader of the unit at university-wide and divisional meetings as requested.

  • Serve on project committees and working groups.

  • Handle special projects at the direction of the unit leader.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.

  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible financial and administrative management experience.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.

  • Professional experience in higher education or an academic medical center.
