Summary
GS‑12 Salary: $ Per Year (Step 1) to $ Per Year (Step 10). First‑time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at Step 01.
Duties- Plans, schedules, and supervises the activities of employees and student interns engaged in surface water hydrologic data collection, data management, and data reporting activities for the Science Center.
- Promotes and maintains cooperator relations with USGS programs, and local, State, and other Federal agencies concerned with the development and operation of hydrologic networks.
- Serves as the expert on new and innovative technologies in surface water hydrologic data collection.
- Provides administrative and technical direction to the staff, including knowledge of pertinent Federal and Bureau personnel, safety, finance and procurement policies and procedures.
Applicants will be required to serve a one‑year probationary period during which fitness and continued employment advantage to the public interest will be evaluated. Evaluation criteria include performance, conduct, agency needs, organizational goals, and federal service efficiency.

Candidates must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑11 in the Federal service. This includes planning, coordinating, and conducting surface‑water monitoring and investigations; operating and maintaining streamflow, lake, and reservoir monitoring stations; collecting, analyzing, and interpreting hydrologic and hydraulic data; establishing stage‑discharge relationships; developing rating curves; computing streamflow records; conducting flood‑response activities; evaluating hydrologic trends and watershed conditions; ensuring data quality;
preparing technical reports; coordinating with Federal, State, Tribal, and local partners.
Foreign education may be used if documented as comparable to an accredited U.S. institution. Volunteer experience via National Service programs counts toward experience.
