Salary Range: $46,336.00 - $75,523.00 Annually

Class Definition

A Traffic Investigator II performs traffic studies for the installation, removal or adjustment of traffic control devices. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening, weekend and callback work may be required. Work is performed in an office and outdoors where there is occasional exposure to inclement weather and traffic hazards.

Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education:

Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

Experience:

Have three years of experience in the performance of traffic investigation, enforcement or maintenance and installation work.

OR

Equivalency Notes:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit is required. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of traffic investigative techniques.
  • Knowledge of the function and use of traffic control devices.
  • Knowledge of the major streets and roadways in the City of Baltimore.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to gather and analyze traffic data.
  • Arithmetic ability.
  • Ability to write narrative reports.
  • Ability to read street maps.
Additional Information

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month period.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.

The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application.
