The Stakeholder Relations Manager will lead the development and management of a number of strategic relationships with international environmental NGOs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, values, and public commitments on sustainability, climate, biodiversity, and environmental justice. The role is central to building trust, managing risk, and creating opportunities for collaboration, advocacy, and positive impact at global and regional levels, working with existing FSC members of the Environmental Chamber as well as ENGOs not currently in FSC membership.
MainRoles & Responsibilities Stakeholder Strategy, Planning & Engagement
- Support the development and implementation of a stakeholder engagement approach focused on already prioritized environmental international NGOs as part of wider Advocacy Plans.
- Regularly map, prioritize and maintain relationships with key NGO stakeholders across the relevant identified areas such as bioeconomy, climate, conservation/ biodiversity, and environmental justice agendas.
- Act as a primary relationship lead for selected NGO partners, ensuring consistent, transparent, and constructive dialogue in line with strategic goals.
- Build long-term, trust-based relationships with NGO leaders, policy teams, and campaigners.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, joint initiatives, and thought leadership.
- Support management of sensitive or higher-risk relationships, including contentious issues or reputational challenges, with diplomacy and sound judgement.
- Monitor and analyze NGO positions, campaigns, and policy priorities related to global environmental issues relevant for FSC.
- Provide strategic advice and briefings to senior leadership on NGO perspectives, emerging risks, and engagement opportunities.
- Support organizational input into environmental policy debates and multistakeholder forums where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate in specific countries to improve the enabling conditions for FSC solutions to shape policy development that impact on forests
- Work closely with other FSC Teams, specifically across FSC’s Engagement Pillar, Policy and Performance Unit, Markets and Commercial Unit and the FSC Network to align messaging and actions to build and implement collaboration opportunities in line with Account plans and strategic objectives.
- Ensure internal teams are informed of key NGO relationships, sensitivities, and agreed engagement approaches.
- Contribute to crisis preparedness and response related to NGO scrutiny or campaigns.
- Track engagement outcomes, risks, and opportunities using clear metrics and reporting frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills in complex, values-driven environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with NGO leaders and internal senior stakeholders.
- Sound judgement, political awareness, and the ability to navigate sensitive or contested issues.
- Strategic thinking combined with strong delivery and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across cultures, regions, and disciplines.
- Proven experience working with or engaging international environmental NGOs (e.g. climate, conservation, sustainability, or human–environment issues).
- Strong understanding of global environmental policy frameworks (e.g. climate change, biodiversity, sustainability transitions).
- Experience in stakeholder relations, partnerships, public affairs, sustainability, or NGO engagement roles.
- International experience and comfort working across different geographies and cultural contexts.
- Degree or equivalent experience in environmental studies, international relations, public policy, sustainability, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in a relevant area is desirable.
