Job Summary

This is a community engagement position that resides on our Community Impact team and reports to the Community Outreach Manager. This is a part-time canvassing position that will be in community engaging directly with residents at their front doors and in their neighborhoods. The community aid will mobilize residents in service of legislative and policy issues that improve the quality of life for Baltimoreans.

This is a non-partisan, official government outreach role - not a political or electoral canvassing position. The community aide will inform residents about critical policy efforts and solicit their support to enact these policies. The community aide will also solicit feedback from residents about government services and programs and encourage residents to participate in community events.

Essential Functions
  • Always Represent the Office of the Council President in a professional non-partisan manner in accordance with City ethics and outreach policies.
  • Canvassing and engaging with residents in Baltimore City neighborhoods.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Team debriefs.
  • Being knowledgeable and expert about current events and policy activity that affect residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and facility interacting with people.
  • Resilience and persistence when engaging with residents who may be busy or skeptical
Preferred
  • Prior canvassing experience.
  • Prior experience in grass roots advocacy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated interest in the Baltimore community, political, and policy landscape.
  • Outgoing and conversational.
  • Ability to build trust across Baltimore’s diverse neighborhoods.
  • Reliable transportation to engagement sites.
  • Physical ability to walk extended periods of time in varied weather.
Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month.
