Director Of Constituency Affairs / Council Secretary

The Baltimore City Council Office of Council member Paris Gray (District
8) is seeking a Director of Constituency Affairs / Council Secretary. Serve as the main liaison between District 8 residents and city government — fielding constituent requests, routing issues to the appropriate agencies, monitoring office phone lines, and flagging trending district concerns for the Council member and Chief of Staff. Also supports scheduling, administrative tasks, community event attendance, newsletter drafting, and policy research.

Salary Range: $53,641 - $87,426

Starting Salary: $53,641

Hours:

Full time. Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Must be available for occasional evenings/weekends when events are scheduled.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

High level of attention to detail

Excellent time management & multi-tasking abilities

Excellent organizational skills

Must be OK with flexible scheduling for emergency responses

Must have a car or reliable transportation for community meetings, events, canvasses, etc.

Experience:

Four (4) years of relevant experience. Preferably in customer service/constituency services/ etc.

Customer Service/constituency work preferred; strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills; reliable transportation; and flexibility for evening/weekend events and emergency response scheduling.

Equivalence:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of District 8 communities/District 8 Resident

Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferred District 8 residency, familiarity with city agencies, and proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, Mailchimp, or similar tools.
  • Preferred experience/knowledge with city agencies & customer service
  • Experience using Google Drive & Microsoft Office Docs, spreadsheets, google forms, etc.
  • Experience using Adobe, Canva, Mailchimp, & other document creation programs.

About The City Council:

The City Council is the City's legislative body, with the power to enact all ordinances and resolutions. City Council members are elected from fourteen districts, and the President is elected at large, by all voters of the City. The fifteen City Council members, along with the Mayor, act only by ordinance, resolution, or motion. They adopt and may alter the annual budget and confirm the Mayor's appointments.

The City Council is responsible for the appropriation and issuance of bonds. The City Council determines its own rules of procedure, and its meetings are open to the public. City Council members are elected every four years. They are elected to geographic districts of roughly the same proportion of population.
